The remote and desolate Great Karoo hosts some of the most spectacular vistas in South Africa.Based in this malaria-free quarter of the Eastern Cape, outside South Africa’s 4th oldest town of Graaff-Reinet, Veldscape of the Great Karoo is the inspiring story of the regeneration of a 200 year old farm and landscape that had been badly damaged by overgrazing, misuse and non-existent conservation management. Our offering is based around experiencing the great landscapes now available on our farm and in the wider area. Horizons stretch in every direction, across terrain varying from semi-grasslands and mountains to arid plains, providing for splendid nightskies and sunsets awash with colour.
We offer accommodation in charming cottages and star cots on the estate, or in one of our historic town properties. We also offer tailored veld experiences – mountain biking, trail running, stargazing and a night in our StarCots, hunting, hillwalking, private veld dinners, and an initial base from which to enjoy much of what this remarkable area has to offer.
From here the Town’s graceful charm and history can be explored, and neighbouring offerings such as ancient rock art, horseback riding, trophy hunting, etc experienced.

Look skyward and remind ourselves of the insignificance of our worries, of our place in the cosmos. In keeping with our commitment to make as ecologically light a footprint as possible, we have built starcots on a remote plateau, which are erected nightly – double beds with a private frame of mosquito netting, equipped with white linen and lanterns, and from which you are invited to sleep under the stars, after supper on our Telescope Terrace. The only permanent structure is a sympathetically designed private bathroom with splendid views.
